Duties

Program Direction: 

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of the RN Programs at the extended campus sites.
  • Work collaboratively with enrollment, records, student finance, Counseling Center, Teaching & Learning Center, ITTS, library, veteran’s services, and the bookstore in providing off-campus RN student services.
  • Participate in recruitment activities for the extended campus RN programs. 
  • Oversee that all extended campus RN programs and recruitment materials reflect current admission policies and procedures.
  • Plan, direct, and participate in the required orientation and Introduction to Nursing (NURS110/210) courses.
  • Arrange and schedule classroom facilities at the extended campus sites.
  • Plan, arrange, and direct extended campus special functions as indicated.
  • Serve as primary liaison between extended campuses, the Nursing Department, clinical facilities used by AS RN students, extended campus faculty, and PUC.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours at the extended campus to represent PUC and the Department of Nursing.
  • Monitor extended campus budget and participate in budget review and forecasting.
  • Teach NURS 326 (Management & Professional Practice) and other course if needed at extended campus sites.

Faculty Support: 

  • Recruit and participate in the screening and selection of extended campus faculty.
  • Provide orientation to all new RN extended campus faculty.
  • Meet regularly with extended campus faculty to identify at-risk students and to develop a plan for successful resolution.
  • Coordinate off-campus travel arrangements for faculty.
  • Coordinate and edit as needed extended campus syllabi to reflect specific facility and extended campus requirements while maintaining congruency with department policies and practices.
  • Maintain frequent communication with extended campus clinical faculty to discuss and seek resolutions to any concerns regarding clinical teaching or concerns within the program.

Program Evaluation: 

  • Participate in short- and long-term planning and goals of the extended campus RN program.
  • Participate in the assessment, evaluation, review, and planning of the PUC nursing programs to assure continuity between campuses, programs, approval, and accrediting requirements.
  • Oversee the evaluation process for student, faculty, program, and clinical evaluations for the extended campus RN program.

Academic Direction:

Students

  • Plan and develop all theory and clinical RN program schedules on extended campus locations.
  • Serve as academic advisor to all extended campus RN students and prospective students.
  • Facilitate pre-admission testing required for entrance into the AS degree nursing program at extended campus sites.
  • Work as primary liaison for the extended campus students throughout his or her enrollment at PUC to promote continuity between campuses.
  • Counsel all at-risk RN students to facilitate successful resolution of identified areas of concern.

Committees

  • Participate in Department Committees as assigned.
  • Participate in College Committees as assigned
  • Participate in California Organization of associate degree Nursing Program Directors (COADN) meetings, conferences, and events
  • Participate in Napa/Solano Nursing Education Advisory Council

Clinical Direction:

  • Pursue contracts and maintain cooperative relationships with appropriate clinical agency sites.
  • Provide continuous evaluation of selected clinical settings to assure compliance with BRN approval and nursing accreditation regulations.
  • Meet each session with clinical agency’s education and/or nursing administration to assure compliance with facility and accreditation regulations.
  • Regularly visit clinical groups and sites to evaluate students, adequacy of clinical experience, and faculty.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of one year teaching experience in a professional nursing program or as a nursing staff educator in the service setting. Candidates without this experience may be considered if they have had educational preparation in nursing education.
  • Meets CA BRN criteria for Assistant Instructor or Instructor.
  • Program management experience and/or administrative experience desired.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current licensure in the State of California as a Registered Nurse

Language Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
