Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide academic advising to all current and potential Pre-Nursing students
- Provide advising to all current and potential Pre-Nursing students regarding the admission requirements and the application process for the (prelicensure) AS Nursing Program at PUC
- Support Pre-Nursing students who are academically at risk by connecting them with the Student Success Center, the Student Wellness/ Counseling Center, and other campus services
- Create and maintain database of AS in Nursing and BSN in Nursing graduate employment statistics, providing the Nursing & Emergency Services dean with data as needed for reporting and accreditation purposes
Pre-Nursing Advising
- Establish and maintain regular office hours to be available to pre-nursing students for schedule planning and academic program advisement.
- Serve as contact person for all current and prospective pre-nursing students to advise regarding testing and classes needed.
- Maintain close connections with faculty, Enrollment, Records, Student Wellness/ Counseling, and the Student Success Center to support pre-nursing students’ academic program.
- Support high risk pre-nursing students and work closely with faculty
- Initiate student contact based on faculty referral or on midterm grade warnings
- Work with students to identify barriers to success
- Assist students in assessing current study habits and time management skills
- Assist students in identifying current coping mechanisms
- Coordinate individual nursing student success plan
- Maintain open door policy
- Build and maintain non-threatening relationships with students
- Provide confidential environment
- Advise students in time and/or life management skills
- Provide forum for students to address their own needs
- Provide positive feedback for progress towards student success goals
- Modify plan if student needs are not met
- Meet with student as needed
- Refer pre-nursing students to available campus resources
- Maintain good relationships with campus departments
- Provide directions for navigating college resources
- Refer to student health services
- Refer to financial services for scholarships
- Refer to the Student Success Center for the following services:
- Assess students for learning differences and/or other issues
- Advise students in organizational skills
- Advise students in study skills/strategies

- Refer to the Student Wellness/ Counseling Center for the following services:
- Advise students in anxiety reduction strategies
- Mental health/crisis counseling
Nursing Student Success Program
- Participate in new nursing student orientation
- Support high risk students
- Initiate student contact based on faculty referral
- Support students in communicating concerns
- Work with students to identify barriers to success
- Assess support system(s) available to students and refer students to campus support services for assistance
- Maintain open door policy
- Build and maintain non-threatening relationships with students

- Meet with students and their instructors as needed

- Program documentation
- Provide student with mutually agreed upon success plan
- Document student meetings with success advisor
- Document supportive services recommended
- Maintain individual student progress records
- Produce required reporting to Department Chair
- Remediation
- Coordinate ATI tests for end-of-quarter remediation
- Work with the Student Success Center and the Student Wellness/ Counseling Center to provide study and career sessions for nursing students learning opportunities using campus services or volunteers
Admissions
- Meet with potential pre-nursing students who visit campus as scheduled by PUC Enrollment
- Respond to inquiries from potential pre-nursing students via phone and email
- Collect potential pre-nursing students’ information and create pre-nursing student data sheets on the shared nursing drive
- Provide unofficial transfer evaluations for potential pre-nursing students who have completed college courses elsewhere
Data Collection and Analysis
- Collect and file data from standardized assessment testing (i.e., ATI RN Content Mastery Series Assessments)
- Maintain and update student database for nursing graduate employment statistics needed on each program for accreditation and approval purposes.
- Create and maintain updated spreadsheets to track various graduate employment statistics and produce reports as required.
- Assist in the completion of annual reports and questionnaires for approving and accrediting agencies.
- Assist in preparation, production, and dissemination of reports related to outcomes and systematic evaluation plan.
Administrative / Faculty Support
- Assist in providing support to faculty, students and applicants as needed in the absence of Office Manager and/or Admissions/Progression Coordinator.
- Maintain collegial relationship with Nursing faculty and staff
- Participates in faculty and/or departmental meetings
- Participates in Nursing Admissions Committee
- Provide staff support to Student and Alumni Issues Committee
- Organize annual Nursing and Emergency Management Job Fair on the second Wednesday of February.
Desirable Qualifications
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma- required
- Bachelor’s Degree - Preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- Project Manager, organized, efficient, self-starter, identify high risk student, coordinate individual nursing student success plan, collaborate with the department team, refer nursing students to available campus resources
- Skilled in word processing and data entry.
- Proficient in computer programs/applications (especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).
- Competent in statistical data retrieval.
- Effective communicator, with excellent business writing and interpersonal skills.
- Accurate and detailed-oriented.
- Curious and research minded.
- Self-directed and independent, yet able to work as part of a team.
Compensation
Hourly; $19.89 - $23.57 (plus denominational benefits, depending upon qualifications and experience)
