Skills/Qualifications

Minimum 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, including coursework required by California childcare licensing regulations; qualifying experience with preschool-aged children; and demonstrated ability to independently supervise and manage a group of young children. The ideal candidate is warm, patient, dependable, confident, organized, and able to communicate clearly and respond calmly with sound judgment. Montessori experience is welcome but not required. Current CPR/First Aid certification and all applicable California childcare licensing requirements and clearances will be required.

Job Description

Lead St. Helena Montessori School’s afternoon care program for children ages 2½–6. Support the transition from the regular school day into Aftercare, then assume primary responsibility for a calm, engaging, and well-managed mixed-age environment. Duties include planning age-appropriate activities and outdoor play; managing snack, toileting, transitions, and dismissal; communicating professionally with families; maintaining orderly indoor and outdoor spaces; collaborating with classroom guides and administrators; and following school policies and California childcare licensing requirements. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00–5:15 p.m. during the school year. Anticipated start date: August 24, 2026. Additional hours may be available through classroom support, substitute teaching, school events, or other programs.

Wage Rate

$24-28 per hour, depending on experience/hour
