The Office of Service, Justice, and Missions (also the Campus Chaplain's Office) is a safe place where ideas are launched, hurts are dressed, and God is central. It can be quiet in prayer or noisy in praise, ideas and fun. It is the nerve center for campus ministries and world missions as well as the work place for the chaplains and secretaries. Our office is located between the Campus Center and the Scales Chapel as you walk to the PUC Church sanctuary.
Formal spiritual direction is the gentle process of having someone help you discover what God is doing in your life and God's will for you. Also many faculty and staff want to listen to your spiritual concerns and questions. Talk with someone about your walk with God.
The collegiate Sabbath School has two faces. A Sabbath School with lots of contemporary Christian music and a general lesson study alternates weeks with a format that has many small groups studying scripture on a variety of topics.
Each quarter there are small groups devoted to prayer and or Bible study. These groups meet in dorms, classrooms and in the community. If you would like to join one but are not sure how to start, contact the Chaplain's office or the Student Association religious vice president.
Small groups often sing some songs and then we have a message from the Bible. Topics will be presented in sermon format but a certain level of interaction is encouraged by having people read texts and by accepting questions when people raise their hands. We also start the evening's message with prayer in which we ask people for prayer requests. Naturally this pre-vespers will increase your faith by hearing of the word, enliven your walk by warm fellowship and singing, increase your understanding of God by the teaching of true doctrine and Bible themes, and help to fulfill your required worship attendance by offering 1 worship credit to those who come.
