Graduate School Fair to Bring Resources to Campus

Pacific Union College will host a Graduate School Fair on October 15, open to students and the community. Prospective graduate school students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from 23 schools that offer a variety of graduate programs.

PUC Welcomes New Students

Phaidra Knight’s first class doesn’t start until nine in the morning on Monday, but the new Pacific Union College freshman is already making PUC home. Like the rest of her peers in the PUC Class of 2018, Knight arrived on campus with a car full of boxes on September 17 for new student orientation ready to join the PUC community.

Puffins and Polar Biology: Students Experience Alaskan Ecosystem

Grizzly bears, Dall sheep, moose, and orcas are unusual college classmates. Pacific Union College students enrolled in this summer’s Polar Biology class encountered these animals and more as the thriving Alaskan ecosystem became their classroom during an 11-day immersion into true field biology.

Departments

Aviation Program
The Flight Center at the Angwin Airport offers a four-year bachelor of science degree in aviation as well as ground school and flight instruction to community members.
Biology
Through observation and experiment, the biologist seeks to understand the complexity of the living world. Whether preparing for a future in research, education, medicine, dentistry or ecology, a degree in biology can open up many possibilities for students.
Business Administration & Economics
Business students prepare to meet the demands of graduate school and business and economic challenges. The department teaches students how to work with people and solve problems, while giving practical training to prepare them for a wide variety of careers.
Chemistry
The chemistry department serves students who have an interest in chemical sciences and those planning to enter graduate, medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry and M.D./Ph.D. programs.
Communication
The communication department offers instruction in a variety of communication skills and principles that apply to mass media, public speaking, small group and interpersonal settings.
Computer Science
This program provides students with the skills needed to turn ideas into a working computer system. Each student has the option of studying the details of computer science or concentrating on the uses of computers in several areas.
Education
Preparing the best possible teachers is done through classroom field experience, developing a variety of teaching skills, fully accredited credential programs, and professors sharing real-life experience.
English
Home to students who love language, books, and drama, this department prepares students to teach high school or college, write for businesses or newspapers, and attend graduate schools.
Exercise Science, Health, & Nutrition
The department of exercise science, health and nutrition serves the PUC community by providing opportunities for career development in sports professions, for instruction, and for participation.
History
The goal of the history department is to help students develop clear thinking about human events, and the ability to weigh conflicting claims presented by a study of history or political science.
Honors
The Honors program offers academically motivated students an alternative General Education curriculum built around the study of the great works of world culture.
Mathematics
Mathematics students will have experience with mathematical modes of thought, including modeling, abstraction, optimization, logical analysis, inference from data and use of symbols.
Modern Languages
The modern languages department offers majors in Spanish and French and minors in French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
Music
The music department trains students to be performers, teachers, scholars and creators, and encourages the development of an aesthetic, analytical and historical understanding of and appreciation for great music.
Nursing & Health Sciences
PUC's nursing program is unique, involving the student in nursing clinicals right from the start. Students have access to leading health care hospitals in the area.
Physics
Physics courses give the student a rational understanding of why things happen as they do. The study of the natural universe will help relate the many things found in nature to the principles of nature.
Psychology & Social Work
The mission of this department is to be a Christian community of liberal learning that explores the insights into human nature and activity distinctive to psychology, social work and related disciplines.
Religion
In addition to providing general education classes for students, the religion department offers two majors and a minor for those who desire a more intensive study of the Bible and the Christian faith.
Visual Arts
Along with more traditional forms, visual art has expanded to include mediums that emerged from technological advancements, such as photography, film and television, and graphic design.
