The Senior Writer for Alumni and Advancement is responsible for writing and editing donor materials that are informed, accurate, and consistent with the Pacific Union College, Alumni, and Advancement brand. These materials support the organization’s ambitious fundraising goals and play a critical role in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all Pacific Union College, Alumni, and Advancement supporters. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, Communications and Annual Giving the Senior Writer for Alumni and Advancement works closely with the Pacific Union President, Vice President’s, Communications and Marketing staff, and the entire Alumni and Advancement team to craft useful donor-facing messages and engaging stories with a particular focus on major gift fundraising. Will generate monthly reports from the desk of the college president. Materials the Senior Writer will produce the annual report, stewardship/recognition letters donor reports, yearly fund appeals surveys and proposals, donor research, provide copy and coordinate stories for Viewpoint magazine, events, and trip collateral, newsletters, corporate messaging, fact sheets, brochures, invitations, program updates, cover letters, email messages, video script and website text.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field. 
  • Minimum of three years of writing experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field. 
  • Experience with writing for a variety of audiences across multiple communications channels. 
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and editing skills for both short- and long-lead turnarounds. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and communicate key messages in alignment with overarching communications strategy. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and set and meet deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and quality standards. 
  • Ability to problem solve and deal diplomatically with challenging issues and situations. 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies. 
  • Ability to synthesize complex educational and higher learning material, translate it into compelling text, and communicate clearly and succinctly.
