Duties

The Chair of the Business Administration and Economics Department serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the department. Areas of responsibility in this role include the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental goals and objectives that support the college’s strategic initiatives. More specifically, areas of responsibility for this leadership position include; 

  • Facilitates academic programs and activities;
  • Teaches business courses in Management or Accounting;
  • Provides advocacy and administrative coordination for the academic discipline;
  • Drives departmental innovation and change; 
  • Coordinates fiscal planning and management; 
  • Coordinates and conducts faculty appraisal, personnel development, and peer evaluation;
  • Provides leadership for faculty recruitment, and retention; 
  • Develops/maintains alumni relations, fund raising, and corporate/external relations;
  • Supports the enrollment and marketing team in recruiting students; 
  • Advises department majors;
  • Participates in departmental and college affairs; 
  • Provides advice and counsel to the Academic Dean as appropriate;
  • Prepares departmental reports with input from relevant faculty; 
  • Reviews, evaluates, and conducts assessment of duties by office associates (i.e. employees, student workers, etc.).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Management or Accounting (ABD considered, an MBA or other significant professional experience will also be considered);
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; 
  • Experience in using/delivering hybrid models of instruction (i.e. online, etc.);
  • Evidence of strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; 
  • Innovative and Entreupreneural Spirit.
