World Languages & Cultures


Foreign language study focuses on learning the language, literature, and culture of the respective language. Being able to communicate fluently and act appropriately in professional settings is a tremendous asset and a marketable skill. There are many possibilities for individuals who have experienced living outside their own culture and can serve as bridges between cultures.

Majors from our department pursue careers in education, government, business, law, and the non-profit sector. There are also majors who pursue careers in the healthcare professions and art. We encourage all of our majors to pursue areas of secondary expertise, whether a pre-professional program or second major.

Teaching jobs are available for students with a degree in French or Spanish. Credentialing is necessary for primary and secondary school teaching. Many jobs in international business and in international communication are available to the student who has a command of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, etc.
