Angwin, CA – The Pioneers were defeated 3-1 by William Jessup University for the second time this season on Friday, October 31. It was a frustrating game for both sides as they battled the elements and each other in the rainy weather and the slogged field.
The Pioneers only goal was scored by David Kwon who was assisted by Bucky Voigt in the 25th minute. On a whole the Pioneers took 12 shots, 9 of which were shots on goal. Tempers flared for the Pioneers throughout the match. They were whistled for 17 fouls and were shown a total of 4 yellow cards and one red card.
William Jessup scored two of their goals on their own; Noel Bati assisted by Ricky Ward in the 40th minute and Luke Hammond off a penalty kick in the 59th minute. The other was the result of an unfortunate ball placement (own goal) by PUC’s Colin Davis in the 66th minute. William Jessup took 14 shots, half of which were shots on goal. They also were called for 16 fouls and two yellow cards.
WJU’s season record now reads 5-9 overall, and 5-6 in the Cal Pac. The Pioneers season record is now adjusted to 3-9-1 overall, and 2-9-1 in the Cal Pac. This was the Pioneers last home game of the season. They next play on the road against CSU Maritime on Wednesday, November 5 at 7 p.m.

Redding, CA – The Pioneer men’s soccer team lost 1-5 on Wednesday, October 22, to the Red Hawks of Simpson University. This was the second time this season that Simpson triumphed over the Pioneers. The Pioneers dropped a heartbreaker at home with the Red Hawks scoring the winning goal in the final thirty seconds of the match.
Sam Anjejo scored the only goal for the Pioneers in the second period, assisted by forward Bucky Voigt. The Pioneers took 7 total shots, were charged with 20 fouls, and had one corner kick.
In addition to scoring 5 goals (3 in the first period and 2 in the second), it was reported that the Red Hawks took a incomprehensible 46 shots during the game, inflicted 25 fouls, and had four corner kicks.
With this victory, Simpson’s season record now reads 8-4-1 overall, and 5-3 for the Cal Pac. The Pioneers are now 3-5-1 overall, and 2-5-1 in the Cal Pac. They next play Dominican University on Friday, October 23 at 4 p.m. in San Rafael.

Congratulations to Bucky Voigt who was names the Cal Pac Men's Socer Offensive Player of the Week. Voigt earned the recognition for his play last week in leading the Pioneers to a 1-1 record on the week, against the top two teams in the conference. Voigt is the second Pioneer to win the award this season. Freshmen Edrie Mauries won the award earlier this season.

Bucky Voigt Wins Menʼs Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Pacific Union College sophomore Bucky Voight was named the California Pacific Conference Menʼs Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the dates of October 13th through 20th, 2008.
Voight scored a goal and had an assist in the Pioneersʼ 4-2 loss to Holy Names University on last Thursday and had two goals as the Pioneers beat Menlo College on Friday. The Pioneersʼ win was the first over the Oaks in the history of the menʼs soccer program at Pacific Union.
The Pioneers continue their league schedule Wednesday against Simpson University in Redding.

Angwin, CA – It was a scrappy game on Friday afternoon, October 17, in which numerous fouls were called, resulting in a few yellow, two of which turned into red cards causing a player from each team to be ejected from the game. However, the Pioneers emerged victorious and the final score read 3-1. This is PUC’s first ever victory over Menlo, in men’s soccer, in school history since the Pioneers reinstated their soccer program in 2005.
It was the dynamic duo of Edrei Mauries and Bucky Voigt who led the scoring for the Pioneers in the first half. Voigt scored twice off of Mauries assist, first in the 21st minute and second in the 31st minute. Sam Anjejo scored the third goal unassisted in the 48th minute.
Menlo’s only goal was scored by Julian Baldaccini in the 78th minute; he was unassisted.
The second period was when the game began getting physical, and the cautions and ejections were given. 16 total fouls were called against Menlo, 11 of which were in the second half. Julian Baldaccini was shown yellow in the 50th minute, his teammate Michael Pessah was shown in the 67th. But it was Cesar Garcia who was shown yellow twice, once in the 67th for mouthing off to the referee, and again in the 72nd minute, which resulted in a red card and his automatic ejection form the game. PUC’s Alberto Benitez was shown yellow in the 42nd minute, and the benched Jonathan Osorio was shown yellow in the 48th minute for stepping on the field to celebrate Sam Anjejo’s goal with his team. To top it all off, Mario Benitez was shown yellow in the 72nd minute and again in the 89th, resulting in a red card and his ejection from the game.
With this defeat, Menlo’s season record now reads 6-5-1 overall, and 5-2-1 in the Cal Pac. The Pioneers are now 3-5-1 overall, and 1-5-1 in the Cal Pac. The Pioneers men’s soccer team will next play on October 22 up in Redding against Simpson University.

Angwin, CA - The Pioneers men’s soccer team was looking to ride their momentum from a victory over CSU Maritime this past Friday, as they hosted the first place Hawks of Holy Names University. The Pioneers struggled to get out of the gate, allowing four first half goals. After finding some energy and rhythm at the half, the Pioneers outplayed the Hawks for a majority of the second half, scoring two goals of their own, with a handful of chances that just didn’t find their target. The Hawks held on for a 4-2 win in this Cal Pac match-up.
Scoring for the Pioneers was Bucky Voigt off of a penalty kick at the beginning of the second period. Voigt later assisted Sam Anjejo in the 70th minute. The Pioneers shot 11 times, 6 which were shots on goal.
Holy Names scored all 4 of their goals in the first 40 minutes of the game. On the whole, they shot the ball 19 times, eight of which were shots on goal.
It was a physical match that resulted in a total of four yellow cards, three for the Hawks and one for the Pioneers.
With this recent victory, the Hawks are currently ranked number one in the conference with a season record of 6-0; they are 8-3 overall. The Pioneers drop to 2-5 overall, and 1-5 in the conference. Next up for the Pioneers will be Menlo College at home on Friday, October 17 at 4 p.m.

Angwin, CA – It was a decisive victory for the Pioneers this afternoon when they played host to the CSU Maritime Keelhaulers. Both teams played to a scoreless tie at the completion of the first half. But the Pioneers found their game in the second half, defeating the Keelhaulers 4-0.
For the Pioneers, the goals were scored by Bucky Voigt with a penalty kick in the 46th minute. Sam Anjejo added the second goal in the 57th minute on an assist by Voigt. That goal was followed by Edrei Mauries who put one past the goalie on two assists by Mario Benitez and Sam Anjejo in the 62nd minute.
The Pioneers impeccable defense allowed the Keelhaulers to take only 4 shots, two of which were shots on goal saved by the Pioneers Steve Brooks. The Pioneers fourth and final goal resulted from an own goal by Keelhauler defensement Christian Suric in the 75th minute.
With this victory, the Pioneers are now 2-4-1 overall, and 1-4-1 in the conference. The Keelhaulers drop to 0-7 overall, and 0-5 in the conference. The Pioneers next play at home on Tuesday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. against first place Holy Names University.

Scotts Valley, CA – It was an exciting game on October 3 at the home of the Bethany University Bruins. After 38 total shots, and 19 shots on goal, the game went into sudden death overtime and ended in a tie, 1-1.
Bethany University scored early on in the first half on a goal by Sylvester Massaquoi in the 25th minute. The Pioneers tied things up on a goal by Bucky Voigt in the second half, in the 76th minute.
However, as the clock ticked down to a stop, and neither team managed to score again, the officials decided to end the game in a shootout. Although the shootout concluded 3-0 in favor of the Pioneers, it was later concluded that the shootout should not have taken place at all and the game officially ended in a 1-1 tie. The shootout should only take place in a playoff where a win or loss is absolutely necessary.
As a result, the Bruins are now 1-4-1, 0-1-1 in the Cal Pac, and the Pioneers are now 1-3-1 overall, and 0-3-1 in the Cal Pac.
