Jon Pahl, Ph.D., is the Peter Paul and Elizabeth Hagan Professor in the History of Christianity and Director of MA Programs at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He has also served Visiting Professor of Religion at Temple University, in Philadelphia, and as Visiting Professor of Religion at Princeton University. He has authored or edited six books, along with dozens of articles, essays, reviews, and columns. Dr. Pahl has appeared on numerous media outlets and in the feature documentary film Malls R Us as a commentator on the intersection of religion and culture.
Dr. Pahl will be speaking as part of the Longo Lecture Series, a lectureship dedicated to topics relating to religion, society, and learning. Dr. Pahl’s lecture, “A Coming Religious Peace,” will draw on historical research in America, in Turkey, and from around the globe as well as case studies in the design of shopping malls, the operation of Walt Disney World, and from Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions. He will explore how religious beliefs and practices migrate in surprising ways, wreaking havoc in a minority of cases, but promising and bringing a just peace to the multitudes—a coming religious peace.
The Longo Lecture will take place in Scales Chapel on the campus of Pacific Union College. For more information, contact the office of Public Relations at (707) 965-6303 or email email@example.com.
