Computer Configuration Recommendation
All Computers:
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) - to protect your computer from power outages which sometimes occur at PUC
- Property insurance coverage specifically for the computer. This would be obtained through your personal insurer
Minimum Recommended PC Configuration:
- 1.5 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 1 GB RAM minimum (2GB recommended for Vista, 1GB for XP)
- Windows Vista, XP Pro, XP Media Center or XP Home
- 60+ GB hard drive
- For Vista: support for DirectX 9 graphics with: WDDM Driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, 32 bits per pixel
- DVD-ROM Drive
- Audio output
- Current antivirus software (or we can provide you with one when you get here)
- A word processing program (Word, OpenOffice, etc)
- A network adapter (an ethernet card for a desktop, an ethernet adapter and wireless card for a laptop)
Please make sure that your copy of Windows is a legal copy, otherwise you may not be able to get Windows High-Priority and Critical Updates (a requirement for being online at PUC).
Recommended Mac Configuration:
- G4 - 1.3 GHz or above
- 512+ MB RAM (1GB recommended)
- Mac OS X
- 60+ GB hard drive
- A word processing program (iWork or MS Office Mac version)
- Airport card (for wireless network access)
