How much will it cost to get my private license?
The amount varies depending on your learning style, the amount of time you are able to commit, and your motivation. On average, you can expect to spend between $5,000 and $7,000 on airplane rental and instruction. College students may spend less because some of their tuition money is used for flying.
How often should I fly?
To get the most benefit from your training, you should plan on at least two lessons per week with your instructor.
How long will it take to get my private license?
The FAA requires a minimum of 35 hours flight time for a private license; however, most students log between 45 and 50 hours before obtaining their license. At Pacific Union College, we emphasize quality of instruction rather than speed.
What kind of training will I receive?
You will be placed with one of our experienced instructors who will work with you throughout your training. Periodically, you will fly with the Chief or Assistant Chief Flight Instructor to ensure that you are receiving the maximum benefit from your training.
How do I start?
First, call the Flight Center to arrange a meeting with the Chief Flight Instructor. He will place you with the instructor best suited to your learning style. At that time, you will open an account with us and purchase the supplies you will need for your training. Second, obtain a second-class medical certificate. A list of FAA-approved physicians in the area is available at the Flight Center. It is important that you do this before training begins.
