It is hard not to be engaged when talking with Ruthie Sanchez. Her bubbly personality infuses every conversation, and walking away is difficult to do. She is not only friendly and conversational, but very dedicated and willing to work hard for what she wants of her life.
Ruthie came to Pacific Union College without knowing anything about it. "I came here completely blindsided, never even been here before, never even seen pictures," she admits. The main reason she chose PUC was to have space and find out who she is. "At first it was hard because I didn't really have the support I wish I did," she says. "I felt more alone than ever. But I love it now, and I'm happy to be here. I don't regret my decision at all. I'm proud to be say I go here."
She came to PUC knowing exactly what she wanted to pursue: business. She is extremely passionate about her major. "I love business," she states. She reveals that marketing is where her heart is, and she wants to help other businesses succeed.
She is succeeding in her own work: she received a scholarship celebrating her hard work. An anonymous donor gave PUC the funds to help dedicated business students. The scholarship, usually given to one candidate, was split between two because of the need. Ruthie is grateful that she was chosen, and is not ready to give up the dedication it took to be a candidate. "The scholarship has helped me so much this year," she explains. "It's helped motivate me to do better this year. I'm just grateful to my teachers that they actually saw something in me that they chose me." She also praises her teachers for being "very loyal and willing to help out."
Ruthie's dream is to become an executive marketer. "First, I just want to get hands on experience, and I'll probably have to do the dirty jobs," she says. But she is more than willing to do so in order to accomplish her goals.
Ruthie enjoys singing and has been part of PUC's choir, gospel choir, and has volunteered some time to praise and worship. She likes to exercise, watch movies, and spend any time she can with her family. Ruthie admits that her darkest secret is her love of video games. "I love Madden," she confesses.
