Miyoun Lee - Pam Wheeler Accounting Scholarship
, August 20, 2008
Miyoun Lee, a senior accounting major, feels that one of the best things about PUC is the professors, specifically the business department professors. Lee’s love for her professors makes it fitting that she was the recipient of the Pam Wheeler Accounting scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year. The scholarship was established in honor of Pamela Wheeler, former PUC assistant professor of the Business Administration faculty from 1982 – 1991.
Lee followed her sister, Mi Da, to PUC after graduating from Guam Adventist Academy, and quickly discovered that choosing a major was not an easy task. “When I first came, my parents wanted me to be pre-dent or pre-med, but those were not for me,” says Lee. “So I took a computerized career test in Stauffer Hall and it showed business as the perfect fit for me. So I changed to a business major, and then as I began taking accounting classes I eventually changed to an accounting major.” Lee feels the professors in the business department have really cared for her, “they work with the students to get them through to graduation and work to get them ready for their careers.” Lee says Marcia Toledo has been her mentor at PUC, “she is a good mom on campus and takes care of me academically.”
This scholarship is yet another opportunity for Lee. “I don’t know what else to say other than I’m very thankful they chose me and that this opportunity came to me.” After graduation Lee plans to take the CPA exam and setup her residence in California. And as she prepares to graduate and leave the professors she loves, Lee admits one thing about them - most of them still mispronounce her name. “It’s easy,” she says, “just ignore the ‘O.”
