Despite foul weather on the fairways, this year’s Malcolm Maxwell Golf Classic on May 10 raised a healthy sum of funds for PUC student scholarships. Over 100 players braved grey skies and forbidding conditions to participate in the tournament and contribute over $45,000 for the cause.
“Everyone who stuck it out for a round was a winner,” says Jess Smith, PUC’s advancement coordinator. “And everyone played at least one round.”
It has been an unusually wet spring in the Napa Valley this year, and the heavy clouds over Eagle Vines Golf Course broke into rain minutes into the Tournament, and didn’t let up until the afternoon. While some players decided to pack it in early, many die-hard golfers and PUC supporters refused to quit until they had played all 18 holes. Tournament staffers scrambled about the course, running hot drinks and dry golf towels to many cold, wet, but determined players.
With a little luck the weather for next year’s Malcolm Maxwell Golf Classic tournament will be as charitable as the players. Click here to see a list of this year’s sponsors and to watch for next year’s date and location.Copyright © 1996-2012 Pacific Union College | All Rights Reserved.
