On a weekend blessed with sunshine, Homecoming 2010, April 16 through18, was a wonderful success. Diogenes Lanterns pinned to lapels and class ribbons tucked under nametags, alumni flooded campus to celebrate their alma mater, Pacific Union College.

Alumni Weekend went off to a great start with Diogenes Dinner. Herb Ford, past communication professor and VP of Advancement for PUC, was recognized for his service to PUC. Keeping up the momentum, Ebenezer Road, a group of young alumni committed to ministry, performed for Vespers. The sun continued to shine on Sabbath and Voice of Prophecy’s Fred Kinsey, and PUC dean Hernan Granados spoke in morning services. Afternoon activities included a nature walk and trail ride behind the college, visits to college museums and galleries, and a Friends of Walter C. Utt gathering. The day ended with the President’s Strawberry Shortcake Reception and, of course, the long-awaited class reunions.

Sunday was led out by the student volunteer club REVO. The students hosted a 5K Race and 2K Walk to raise awareness and funds for a local ministry called KidzReach, which helps local children from troubled homes, and for the Tropical Health Alliance Foundation.

Honored alumni included Jake Schiedeman, class of 1990, who has led the way for a group of volunteers working in Nicaragua; Monica Neumann, class of 1970, an anesthesiologist at Loma Linda University; and Bruce and Audrey Anderson, class of 1960, whose long-time support of PUC has made the Walter C. Utt historical legacy possible. Also in attendance were Thomas Geraty and Helen Mathisen, two of PUC’s most senior alumni, and Francis Ruddle and Robert Wearner, class of 1940, who returned to PUC for their 70th year reunion. The dates for Homecoming 2011 will be April 15-17, and honored classes will be 1941, 1951, 1961, 1971, 1981, 1986, 1991 and 2001.
