Biography:
I grew up in Angwin, CA and attended PUC. I decided to attend Newbold College because it was the place that my late grandparents had met and my great-grandfather had been president of the college during WWII. I very much enjoyed my time spent in England, getting to know the British culture. When I graduated from PUC, I decided that I wanted to move back to Britain and so applied to the Masters of Social Work program at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. My grandfather was Scottish and I loved getting to know my family history better. I loved Scotland so much I even spent an extra year and a half there after completing my masters! I now view Scotland as a second home.

My professional career started with an internship through PUC Social Work Program’s Field Experience Class and I was able to spend 9 months working at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office in Victim Witness Services, with a special focus on victimization of the elderly. After completing the internship I continued my work with victims of crime and volunteered for 3 years at Victim Support Edinburgh, the Scottish equivalent to the work I had done in the U.S. Throughout my master’s degree I completed three further internships which included working with individuals with learning disabilities, working with at-risk homeless and substance abusers and finally working with foster children who had behavioural difficulties in a private unit. I completed my masters’ thesis researching sexually transmitted diseases in the elderly. After graduation I worked part-time supervising contact between foster children and their parents. I then started a full-time position working as a social worker on an Older People’s Social Work Team in the community (in Scotland). I very much enjoyed working with the elderly and their families and undertook extensive training in the area of dementia, which is now my specialty.

I moved back to California in April 2011 and was hired for the post of part-time Instructor of Social Work at PUC. I will also be working at Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport in the Social Work/In-Home Health Department.
