Biography:
A native of Estonia, Helo Oidjarv Mohr joined the PUC family most recently from Walla Walla University, where she spent seven years teaching in both the BSW and MSW programs. Previously, she was an instructor and a doctoral student at the James Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Oidjarv brings with her a plethora of research and volunteer experience, and has given peer-reviewed presentations at several conventions, including the American Sociological Association, the Pacific Sociological Association, and the Council of Social Work Education. She received her B.A. in Sociology degree from her native Estonia (University of Tartu) in 1997, a Master’s in Social Work degree from Andrews University in 2000, and a Ph.D. degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009. At PUC, she is taking students to a Global Social Work Study Tour, and teaching a variety of classes, such as a social welfare course comparing European and U.S. social policies (Topics in Global Social Work), Social Work Practice with Communities and Organizations, Writing for Program Evaluation, and Gender Issues. Her research interests include veterinary social work and animal-assisted therapies, human rights and global issues in social work, and program management and administration. In her free time, Helo loves to travel, read, horseback ride, do crafts, and take care of her three pets.
