Student Opportunities
Clubs, Honor Societies, and Activities
The Nursing Student Association meets monthly for information and socializing. The Association hosts a booth at the Fall Festival, provides hot drinks and snacks for sale at the nursing office, and raises money for specific chosen projects.
Student Employment
The department hires 6 to 8 student employees for the following areas:
- Clerical work–Data entry, filing , grading, answering phone
- Skills Lab Assistant–Supervises skills lab in evenings, does skills testing for nursning students, assist in sim lab
Nursing Scholarships
Ellen Gibson Christian Award: given to an A.D.N. student nurse with financial need
J. Andrew Crane Award: given to a 3rd year B.S.N. student with financial need
Department Commendation Award: given to an A.D.N. student who has demonstrated leadership abilities and a willingness to support peers
Employee of the Year Award: given to an outstanding student employee in the nursing department
Hilary Blount Scholarship: given to an A.D.N. student who exhibits professional pride and execellence in practice, demonstrates enthusiasm, solid clinical skills and the personal touch.
David Egwakhe Memorial Scholarship: awarded by the NSA
Job Resource Center
The nursing department has an AfterCollege job resource center online. AfterCollege helps students and graduates find part-time, internship, and full-time positions in many different areas with numerous organizations and top U.S. employers. The nursing department's resource site lists available nursing positions, and postings change frequently. www.aftercollege.com
