International Student Services
The
office of International Student Services at Pacific Union College
is here to serve you. We will assist you in every possible way to
enroll and to meet your needs while you are a student. You will
be kept informed by e-mail of news and issues relating to immigration.
To assist you when you enroll at PUC, we offer the following services:
English Language Proficiency – As stated in the
college catalog (pg. 19), international students applying to Pacific
Union College
need to demonstrate the ability to pursue studies in the English
language. This can be accomplished by submitting any of the following
minimum scores: 195 on the computer-based Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL) (525 on the paper-based test), 14 on the
ACT verbal section, 360 on the SAT verbal section, or an equivalent
score on another standardized test such as The Michigan Test of
English Language Proficiency or the Cambridge Test.
PUC does not have a full-time ESL program; however, several English
language “bridge” courses are provided for students
who will benefit from additional language help for one, two, or
three quarters before undertaking The College English sequence
or some of the other more difficult course work required for graduation.
Your academic advisor and/or the English Department will help in
determining which, if any, of these courses are appropriate to
meeting your needs.
Tax Information – The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), formerly known as INS,
has laid out the rules under which a foreign citizen is able to
study in the U.S. These rules and regulations are binding for students
with visas, and may be different for the respective visa types.
PUC’s international student advisor will help you find your
way through these immigration requirements. Ultimately it will be
your responsibility to stay in legal status, but we will help you.
Whether it is providing initial documentation for F-1 students,
explaining terms to you, assisting you in maintaining your status,
pointing out and facilitating work opportunities, providing forms,
or helping you to stay out of trouble, we are committed to support
you in any legal way possible.
