Visual Arts Department
Visual art is an exciting vehicle for personal expression
and offers rewarding careers in the areas of fine art,
photography, television & film and graphic design. The
pursuit of art and design should not only be for the student
who enjoys the personal satisfaction of making an expressive
or functional contribution to society, but also for the
student who studies visual arts for the perspectives it
provides to our understanding of life.
Our goal is to inspire and enable students to express their
own ideas. The visual arts student will learn how to
approach art and design critically, with an eye for both art
fundamentals and art history. In the words of the Hungarian
artist Laszlo Maholy-Nagy, “Art is the senses’ grindstone,
sharpening the eyes, the mind and the feelings.” Our department
stresses the importance of individual expression as well as the
skills necessary to
effectively convey artistic vision. |
