A Mountain, A Pickax, A College
Change happens. It's what makes reminiscing fun. Old photographs and sentimental memories can make us laugh, cry, or wince. Even at PUC, change never stops. Rules change, as do hair-styles, skirt-lengths, and tie-widths.
Capturing this phenomenon of change, PUC's stunning new edition of A Mountain, a Pickax, a College, has been freshly updated with never-before-published material, covering the years from 1967-1982. President Maxwell calls the new edition "an artistic feast."
More than 300 historical photographs of PUC-from the early beginning in Healdsburg in 1882 to the centennial celebration in 1982-have also been included. Many of the photos, once thought lost, have been relocated.
The book was written by the late PUC professor, Walter C. Utt, whose incisive and witty prose delighted readers of the first edition. This web-site contains only small excerpts of Utt's remarkable history, as well as a smattering of historical photographs.
