Mon	No School: MLK, Jr. Day [Worksheets from last quarter that will be needed for this quarter: Identifying Verbs and Simple Subjects and Subjects in Unusual Places]
Tues	Pass back papers. Distribute first semester grades. Empty English notebooks. Journal # 21 (Is the glass half full or half empty? Is the school year almost over or just started?) No hmwk.
Wed	[PUC Invitational Academy Basketball Tournament] Continue with grammar, chpt. 13. Review simple subjects and verbs. In pairs, on one piece of paper, do ex. 7, 8, 9 & 11 (pp. 384-390). Directions: Write simple subject and verb (including helping verb) on paper. Underline simple subjects once and verbs twice. No hmwk.
Thurs	[PUC Invitational Academy Basketball Tournament] Grammar, chpt. 13. Continue with simple subjects and verbs review. Go over yesterday's exercises in class to make sure students understand. Work on ex. 12 and Rev. B. No hmwk.
Fri	[PUC Invitational Academy Basketball Tournament] Continue with subjects and verbs review. Complete ex. 12 and Rev. B. Write sentences (underline simple subjects once and verbs twice) that fit these guidelines: An initial "there" sentence with a compound subject A question with the helping verb in front of the simple subject A statement with the predicate first and subject last An imperative sentence (command) with a compound verb A sentence with three prepositional phrases A sentence with three of your friends as a compound subject A sentence beginning with a prep phrase A sentences with a compound subject and compound verb If there is time, go over yesterday's exercises in class. No hmwk.
Week of January 28 to February 1

Wed	Grammar, chpt. 13. Notes on board about subject complements. Do ex. 20. Notes about objects (direct & indirect). Do ex. 21 together in class. No hmwk.
Thurs	Continue with objects. Direct objects worksheet. Indirect objects worksheet. Go over worksheets in class. Hmwk: Study for spelling quiz.
Fri	Spelling quiz. Grammar, chpt. 13. Do ex. 22 with these directions: Copy out sentences on every other line on your paper. (Leave space between each line of writing. This will give you lots of space for underlining, boxing, and labeling.) Cross out prepositional phrases. Underline simple subjects once. Underline verbs twice. (Remember to include helping verbs.) Box and label direct objects (DO) and indirect objects (IO). Those who finish before classmates can begin Rev. Ex. E (using exercise directions). No hwmk (if you have completed steps 1 & 2 above).
Week of February 4 to 8

Begin ex. 23 & 24 using these directions: Make four columns on your paper. Head the columns "subject" "verb" "complement" and "ID". In the "ID" column, you'll write: PA, PN, DO, or IO. Distribute chapter review worksheet. Hmwk: Complete Rev. Ex. E.

An adverb prep phrase telling when an action occurs. An adjective prep phrase with a compound object of prep. An adverb prep phrase telling where something happens. Both an adjective and adverb prep phrase. Piggybacking prep phrases. (Ex: at the top of the hill near my house) A prep phrase at the beginning.
