Due: Detailed outline. Check off outlines. Our Town Study Questions and Essay Options. Work period for drafting essay. Save what you've done to a USB drive or e-mail it to yourself so that you can carry on this evening.
Hmwk: Continue rough draft of essay. Save to USB drive or e-mail to yourself so that you can access it in class tomorrow. (Complete rough draft is due at beginning of class on Thursday.)

Wed

[Midterm] Work period for rough drafts. (At this point, students will probably be working at different tasks for a couple of class periods--depending on when they complete their rough drafts.) Once you have a complete rough draft, print out a hard copy and begin self evaluation (distributed in class).
Hmwk for Thursday: Complete rough draft. Bring hard copy to class on Thursday.
Hmwk for Monday: Revision based on self evaluation. Go for structure and organizational changes. (Don't obsess about spelling and mechanics at this point. There will be plenty of time for that later.) Revision is all about the big stuff: thesis, organization, supports, paragraph arrangement, etc. Bring hard copy of revised draft to class on Monday.

Hmwk: Complete your peer review of your classmate's essay. Bring the essay and your review back for the beginning of class, Tuesday. Be ready for the peer review conversation.
Tues[Short class period for Spirit Week] Due at beginning of class: completed peer review. Be ready to have a conversation with the author of the essay you reviewed. Peer review conversations. Work period for conferences with teacher and final draft.
Hmwk: Revise your essay based on peer review. (See instructions at bottom of peer review sheet.) Hard copy due at the beginning of class on Wednesday.
WedDue at beginning of class: hard copy of next revision (based on peer review). Notes on board for a color-coded visual/graphic analysis of essay structure. Does your preview thesis predict each of the topic sentences? Do the examples within each paragraph directly support their topic sentence? Make adjustments--as needed.
Hmwk: If you discovered any structural disconnects while we were doing the color-coded visual/graphic analysis of essay structure in class, revise essay based on classroom visual/graphic analysis notes.
Thurs Discuss editing and proofreading stage of writing process. Work period for conferences with teacher and final draft. No hmwk. Let you essay just sit and relax over the weekend.
Week of May 12 to 16
MonOur Town essay: work period for conferences with teacher and final draft.
Hmwk: Complete proofreading and editing. Print out final draft hard copy. Put in a folder--along with all previous drafts (in reverse chronological order). Due Tuesday at the beginning of class. Arrive at class with the essay ready to submit.
