Cyrano de Bergerac: Historical Background Project

Due:___________________________________ (Late penalties will apply--as detailed in course syllabus.)

Objective: Learn about the social, political, military and/or historical background of Cyrano de Bergerac.

Directions: Use an encyclopedia, other reference work, or the Internet to research the time period during which the real Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac (1619-1655) lived.

Topic Options: baroque music or costumes, Louis XIV (the Sun King), military history, 17th century European (religious) politics, honor, courtly love, or a topic of your choice (discuss with teacher before you wade in too far!).

Presentation: Make a poster, essay, PowerPoint presentation, collage, etc. to report and demonstrate your findings. Document ALL sources.

Assessment Criteria: "A" assignments will be submitted on time, demonstrate a clear connection between your learning and the play, give evidence of thoughtful organization and research, include documentation for ALL sources (text and graphics), and demonstrate your understanding of the play.
