Law Enforcement & Emergency Service Agencies

There are several local law enforcement and emergency service agencies that may be involved with crime situations or emergency incidents on the campus. A listing of these agencies and links to their respective web pages is as follows:

Napa County Sheriff's Department
As Angwin is an un-incorporated community, it does not have its own police force. Therefore the Napa County Sheriff's Department is the law enforcement authority with jurisdiction over Angwin and Pacific Union College.

California Highway Patrol
Whereas the Sheriff's Department has the direct role in law enforcement of Angwin and Pacific Union College, the California Highway Patrol also has jurisdiction and authority. While CHP primarily handles issues related to traffic, they do work cooperatively with the Sheriff's Department on any law enforcement incident as needed.

St. Helena Police Department
The nearest incorporated town with its own police force is St. Helena. Although SHPD generally remains within the confines of the St. Helena city limits, they would provide mutual-aid response in the event of a major incident.

Angwin Fire Department
The Angwin Fire Department is a volunteer department, made up of local community members, college employees, and students. The fire department is located just west of PUC on College Avenue. Whenever the fire department gets called out to an emergency incident, you will hear the fire alarm siren wail from the top of the college's gymnasium. Although it sounds like an air-raid siren (which it actually was back in the 1940's!), it does provide a useful service of alerting the volunteers to an emergency, and letting everyone know when its lunchtime at 12noon!

California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection
As Angwin is situated in a forested region, a strong presence of CDF is visible within Napa County. There is even a CDF fire station located just south of the college. CDF provides an integral part of the fire protection services for our rural and rustic environment.

Angwin Community Ambulance
Located in the same building as the fire department, the local ambulance provider for the community and college is Angwin Community Ambulance. Organized as a Basic Life Support (BLS) provider, ACA is completely comprised of volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

Piner's Ambulance Company
As Angwin Community Ambulance is a BLS provider, the ambulance service based in Napa does support paramedics and Advanced Life Support (ALS). Whenever ACA responds to an emergency, Piner's also sends one of its paramedic ambulances up from the valley floor. This ensures that the best form of emergency response is sent to anyone in need.

R.E.A.C.H.
REACH stands for Redwood Empire Air Care Helicopter. Based out of Santa Rosa, REACH does respond to major emergencies within Angwin and Napa County. Critical patients are sometimes transported by REACH to Queen of the Valley Hospital, UC Davis Medical Center, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, or even San Francisco depending on the critical nature of the patient.

St. Helena Hospital
Situated just down the "hill" from PUC in the community of Deer Park is St. Helena Hospital. SHH is one of the Adventist Health hospitals, and it provides nearly all levels of health care services, including a Health Center tailored to specialty medical needs such as mental health, alcohol, and chemical recovery. Anyone needing medical care is taken to SHH as it is the closest medical facility. Only those of an extreme critical nature would be taken to one of the specialty hospitals as stated under REACH.

Queen of the Valley Hospital
Queen of the Valley Hospital is the other hospital for Napa County. QVH is located downtown Napa, and it is part of the St. Joseph's Medical System. QVH is considered Napa County's trauma center, therefore it is possible for a patient to be transported from the Angwin area down to QVH instead of SHH should the critical nature of the emergency necessitate a specialty facility.

Informational Links

Listed below are links to additional Internet sites that will provide you more useful information.

Angwin
Angwin is an unincorporated community located on top of Howell Mountain in the Napa County. Located just east of the town of St. Helena, Angwin maintains a rural atmosphere, with Pacific Union College as the biggest entity, business, and employer in the area. In addition to the Community Council's link, more information about Angwin can be found at this link for the Angwin Reporter.

Napa County
Napa County, world renown as the Wine Country, is located just 75 miles northeast of San Francisco. Napa County is home to the cities, towns, and communities of Napa, American Canyon, St. Helena, Calistoga, Yountville, Rutherford, Oakville, Angwin, and Pope Valley. The wine industry is the main focus of the County, however many more interesting aspects of the County await exploration (such as Lake Berryessa).

City of Napa
The city of Napa is the County Seat of Napa County. Also, Napa city is the largest city within Napa County, and is located at the southern end of the Napa Valley, thereby positioning itself as the gateway to the valley. Napa city is where you will find many more conveniences not found in the smaller communities and towns up valley (ie: fast food franchises like McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc; and other name brand stores like Target and Wal-Mart are only located in Napa).

St. Helena City
St. Helena is the closest town to Angwin and Pacific Union College. You can find a variety of shops, restaurants, and businesses down in St. Helena, just about 7 miles drive from the College. For more information about St. Helena, visit the city's web site at this link.

Calistoga City
Calistoga is another small town full of character. It is also located down the hill, and then north to the top end of the Napa Valley, about 15 miles from the College. A visit to this town will also provide you with a variety of shops, restaurants, and businesses. Check out Calistoga at this link.
