Biologists seek to understand the complexity of the living world through observation and experiment. By offering course work and laboratory experience concerning microorganisms, plants, animals (including humans), and the interrelationships among these living things, the Department of Biology encourages the student to consider the study of life an exciting and continuing challenge, whether at the level of molecules, cells, organisms, populations, or ecosystems. The biology major prepares students for careers in the practice or teaching of the life sciences, for graduate study, or for such professions as dentistry, medicine, and medical technology.
